enders game
During chapter 14 so many important things happen. The chapter starts off with Ender and Graff flying to eros. When they got there ender didn't like eros. He felt different and out of place. He also felt that he was so isolated there and it was all strangers. . Ender is introduced to the simulator. This simulates is similar to the battle room an it is holographic. The next day ender meets an hold man which he soon finds to be his enemy. He was about to face is first lesson. Which is "things that don't look dangerous might be." The old man says to ender " theres no better teacher but the enemy." The old man soon introduces himself as Mazer Rackham. This really shocked me. Mazer Rackham attacked ender in his own room. This proves that you should never feel bad for your enemy and that your enemy is your best teacher. Next ender moves to the next simulator. During this he has to command a whole fleet. He finds out that the fleet was full of all of his old friends. Ender has battles every few days now. This last battle is very difficult. There are so many more of them then him. Ender pulls through and wins the battle. By blowing the whole thing up. But then realizes that he was fighting the bugggers and that it wasn't just the simulator. He is so upset that he killed the whole population of the buggers without him knowing. He doesn't want to become his brother, he was not a killer. This really had ender upset that they would trick him like that. Ender ends up in a sort of coma for 5 days and he wakes up the squadron leader right next to him. They are all there to congradulate him. If this happened to me I would be so thankful for all of my friends that support me and it would help me get my mind off of it.
Quote “There is no teacher but the enemy” This quote is so big in this chapter. It's the whole lesson that ender has to learn with the "old man" and the simulator. If he new that he was fighting the buggers he would've treated them different just like he treated the old man different. This also ties in with "things that don't look dangerous might be." And this really proves that if you don't know who your fighting you treat them different than you would if you knew who it was.

From the things that I've learned is history there are so many wars that have been cause from miss communication. A long time ago they didn't have as good technology or anything to communicate with the other countries. If people are throughing threats around that were not fully communicated the country can't take it the wrong way. This can cause an even bigger war than it was already going to be. If We don't fully understand the threat than we will have to assume what it is. Which could be better or it could be worse. But you have to do something.
Ender is not a bad person. But he did things that make him have the label of a ruthless killer.Such as killing Silton and bonzo. In some ways yes he has become just like peter but in a different way. Peter has a problem and he is angry and wants to kill people. Ender doesn't have that point of view of just killing people. Ender killed them in self defense in a fight. He go into the fight saying that he was gong to kill them. If I was ender I would feel the same way. I would feel so guilty just like ender. I would hate myself because thats just the way I am and I would never want to kill anyone.
When Ender asked bean “ I need you to think of solutions to problems we haven’t seen yet. I want you to try things no one has ever tried because they’re absolutely stupid.” Ender is really asking bean to come up with creative ways to win the battle. This kind of shows that Ender is sick of the old boring solutions and they aren’t working. Not only that he also wants bean to show that he can be creative enough to come up with crazy solutions. If he does this shows that he has the capability of being a leader. I honestly cannot come up with an idea for these battles but if bean were in my position he would not have the qualities of a commander. This proves that I couldn't be a commander but that make sense because I am not training for the things he is.
Your prespective on something can be different than anyone elses. It all has to do with house you see it. There old perspective was stuck in there mind thats how they thought it was. But then ender changed everything and said the enemy's gate is down. These kind of things happen in real life too. Thats what I love about reading because you can relate most things from the book to your real life. There are so many things that you can put into different prespectives. I think one of the biggest ones in our world is how you see your self and how others see you. Many people may look in the mirror and think they are too fat or too skinny or there hair is ugly, but it really isn't, its just the way they see there selves.
I know that some critics say that the characters are unrealistic and that it could not be true. I do agree with that partially. I think that it is rare to find a kid that can preform the things that peter, val, and ender do. I think that some people are blessed and are just very advanced in the world. Maybe its a little nonrealistic but it could be possible. I think that if the author sued up there ages by a few years it would be more realistic but yet again the age of the kids is what makes the book unique, excited, and shocking. I enjoy reading about kids that are very smart. I think this book could almost give kids motivation to be just like ender, val, and peter.
I feel that chapter 9 was a outstanding chapter. I felt that it was a really good break from all the battles. We got to catch up with Val and Peter“They began composing debates for their characters. Valentine would prepare an opening statement, and Peter would invent a throwaway name to answer her. His answer would be intelligent, and the debate would be lively, lots of clever invective and good political rhetoric. Valentine had a knack for alliteration that made her phrases memorable. Then they would enter the debate into the network, separated by a reasonable amount of time, as if they were actually making them up on the spot. Sometimes a few other netters would interpose comments, but Peter and Val would usually ignore them or change their own comments only slightly to accommodate what had been said.”
So this passage from the book has a lot to do with this chapter. It has relevance to this chapter because its talking about peter and vals net. It talking about what they are writing and the debates. “you dream of power, Peter, but in my own way I am more powerful than you.” I think that this is the most important quote of the chapter because it showing that val thinks she has more power but she's not willing to admit it to peter. She says it a few times in this chapter but only in her head In the beginning of this chapter graft is mad because the mind games that were happening to ender and the end of the world. major imbu which was the computer person explains that the computer does whats best for ender and it does what it wants. Continuing on with this chapter val and peter come and play a big role in this chapter. There scenes start of val celebrating enders birthday, which she still remembers. Then peter convinced val to make fake net names so they can soon rule the world. The too uncover names that they picked were, Locke and Demosthenes. The name locke means "God has not been so sparing to men to make them barely two-legged creatures, left it to Aristotle to make them rational." This fits with peter because it almost means trouble and daring. The name Demosthenes means "a Greek statesman and orator of ancient Athens." Demosthenes also mean strength which really plays into vals role. She has so such strength between peter and ender. Also later in this chapter graff comes to Val's school and talks to her about ender and peter and she tells him about peters killing problems. she convinced them that ender was nothing like peter so they had her write a letter to ender making sure he knew that he was nothing like peter. Going back to ender he received the letter and started crying. He immediately deleted the letter and went back to his game. When he got to the game no val was in it and he finally beat it.
In this chapter Dink and ender have a very interesting conversation that changes a lot. Dink explains that battle school is pretty much a waste and its fake. He also pointed out how crazy the leaders are and how hard they make everyones life, he didn't want to become on of those leaders. He also points out that the buggers are gone and they have gotten killed in the second invasion. In Enders head believes that a "seed" grows and the more he thinks the more the seed grows. So ender decides to not listen to what dink said. So the seed of doubt will always be in is head and he can never unheard what he heard dink say to him.
The Enemy's gate is down.
This quote means that the enmys game is under him. HE has to go down to get to it. It doesnt look like its down but it is. It took him a while to figure it out.It also may mean that the battle isnt over yet. That they are winning and that the enmey is loosing because there gate it down. It also means what they learned. What the team learned and there smart decisions. This would also mean that in the gravity the enemy's gate is always down no matter how you look at it. |
